When Cannes began we couldn’t get enough of lighter shades as every starlet chose nude and white as their palette.
Well as each day progresses the colours often seem to become darker and more wintery looking with black, brown and navy proving to be popular shades.
Former French Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld looked every inch the fashionista in a black lace long sleeved high necked evening gown.
Parts of the dress were opaque but others sections on the abdomen and legs hinted at a little bit of skin and so to compensate for such an intricate dress Carine wore her hair down and straightened in a side parting.
Also in a black evening gown was model Karolina Kurkova. The dress was slit to the thigh and had cut out circular shapes in the midriff section and onto her derrière, showing off her fabulously toned legs and stomach.
She opted for a classic pulled back pony tail, showing that the more flamboyant the gown, the less fussy the hair should be.
Naomi Campbell sported a burgundy fitted circle neck gown, with tiered ruffles on the skirt section. She wore her hair down with a flattering fringe that framed her face and also some ruby coloured earrings to match the gown.
Model Bar Refaeli and actress Jodie Foster both wore navy blue evening dresses on the red carpet. Bar’s frock was high necked and long sleeves with three sections cut out the back with silver lining it.
Her hair was simple in a pony tail and she sported diamond earrings to match the silver pattern on the dress.
Meanwhile Jodie wore a plain off the shoulder dress which is very popular for summer 2011. However she wore a lighter grey knee length tiered dress with brown sandals for the daytime which suited her usual laidback style.
Kirsten Dunst kept it light for the daytime in a mustard yellow chiffon dress and beige strappy high heeled sandals.
She exuded femininity by simply pinning the front of her neat blond bob to the side and offsetting her pale skin with some red lipstick.
Keeping it light and airy was Goldie Hawn in a creamy golden maxi dress with a gold clutch bag and Georgina Chapman in a white lace dress with ruffles on the hem and shoulders.
The key trends are to keep things simple. Even if you are wearing a glitzy dress, tone down your hair, makeup and accessories so that you don’t look brash and showy. Less is definitely more.
