Investec are proud to announce an exciting collaboration with designer Felicity Brown at the 2011 Investec Derby Festival .
As part of her role, Felicity will be working with British model Erin O’Connor, the face of the Investec Derby Festival 2011 and creating a bespoke dress for Erin to wear to the world famous horse racing event.
Felicity commented, “We are thrilled to be part of such a special event. There is a wealth of history and heritage surrounding the Investec Derby Festival and seeing images of racing fashion going back to the late 1700s has been a great inspiration. The project with Erin is very exciting; she is an iconic figure in the fashion industry and a great supporter of British fashion.”
Raymond van Niekerk, Global Head of Marketing for Investec added, “We are excited to have Felicity on board at this year’s Investec Derby Festival, it is important to support developing talent here in the UK and there is no better platform for fashion than The Derby, bringing racing, heritage and style to the forefront.”
Felicity has a wealth of experience since graduating from the Royal College of Art and has previously designed for Alberta Ferretti, Loewe, Mulberry and Lanvin, before setting up her own label. The AW11 collection will be exhibited at Somerset House during London Fashion Week.
The collection reinterprets deconstruction for her AW11 collection, striping back the elements of theatrical costume to reveal a ravaged, untamed new vision. Exhibiting under the sponsorship of British Fashion Council New Gen, Felicity has evolved her raw design signature but retained its artisan detailing. Taking inspiration from Picasso’s cubism period, Felicity sought to inject some of the same fragmented energy into her work while also retaining a dramatic undercurrent. Voluminous dresses appear to have been ripped, sheared and broken down into their fundamental components. The skeletal boning of a corset has been reworked with cotton ribbons emulating the cage structure on the bodices. From the disintegrated netting on the skirts, to the cotton ribbons trailing from the dress, these are emotive, artful pieces.
The Investec Derby Festival, one of horseracing’s most high profile events sets the standard for the summer season, the stakes are high both on and off the course for the two-day Festival. The opening day celebrates all things fashion, with the stylish race goers flocking to the Surrey Downs for Investec Ladies Day. Expect to see an array of colours and styles on display. The Derby is Britain’s most high profile horse race and this year will be the 231st running of The Derby.
