Only a fortnight ago actress Sarah Jessica Parker, film director Harvey Weinstein and designer Marios Schwab were all noted to have left 70s revised fashion label Halston.
Parker – who had only joined the company in January 2010 – working as Halston’s chief creative officer – resigned from her role within the company at the beginning of July while Weinstein (the financial backer) followed suit within a matter of days.
Although Weinstein had originally announced his departure back in April, it came as a shock to the label that had been enjoying a successful comeback in recent years.
It then seems that further upset was on the horizon as apparent rumors of designer Marios Schwab were said to have surfaced stating he was also leaving.
Since then the fashion world had been wondering about the future of the company’s brand, but it now seems clear as it has been announced that
Malka had previously denied he was obtaining this role but now it seems the rumors were true with Malka adding a cash injection of $20 million into the company.
This will cement his role and mean that Malka and Hilco Consumer Capital, the latter whom brought out Parker and Weinstein in the past month, solely own the brand.
Since working for BCBG Max Azria in 2001, Malka managed to build up the brand into a household name with a clever global expansion securing the clothes into department stores such as Bloomingdales, and creating 20 clothing lines under its belt; including Herve Leger, whom they brought in 2007.
Fashion brand Leger then went on to become a staple in every celebrities wardrobes including Beyonce and J-Lo whom adorned their iconic figure hugging dresses which were re-sold, and replicated by every high street chain, thousands over.
With over 550 shops worldwide however, BCBG Maz Azria is a big brand to compete against.
According to a Halston spokeswoman the Halston brand will continue to focus more on the company’s diffusion Halston Heritage line.
