In England, they say, we have the Angel of the North, but in Paris that is no patch on what Riccardo Tisci had created for his autumn/winter haute couture collection for Givenchy.Instead of holding a full blown fashion show, Tisci created a type of fashion installation in panelled rooms that overlooked the Place Vendome: the most luxurious postcode in Paris.
Suspending 10 capsule dresses from the ceiling Tisci opened up a four day event to his most exclusive customers and world press, giving them the opportunity to view first-hand, the craftsmanship that had gone into making these exquisite designs.
Like gowns that you can only imagine Greek goddess’ such as Aphrodite or angels to adorn, Tisci brought evening glamour to its most superb state using old and new techniques such as a 3D ‘shaving’ effects on pearls and tulle, with all items presented in shades of ivory to intensify the angel effect.
Each panelled rooms were also aptly named with them referencing how the beading and so-forth worked. Heavenly names such as ‘Bird of Paradise’, ‘Tears of Angels’ and ‘Cloud Room’ followed on the divine charm.
With some dresses being spun from real gold thread, it is clear to see how an array of women would lust after these ‘must-have’ bespoke pieces and pay a premium price. Tisci of course has just proven why he continues to be given full reign of one of the biggest fashion houses in the world.
