On the third day of the Ascot celebrations, it was a very wet Ladies Day. Female racegoers flocked to the annual horse racing event with heels, fascinators and dresses aplenty, in pure defiance of the downpours all around.
No amount of drizzle can stop these ladies or the celebrities spilling out onto Ascot racecourse for the prestigious event, including Carole Middleton, who arrived in a carriage as part of the royal procession.
Dressed in a nude skirt and jacket ensemble, Carole looked refined and comfortable for the day’s proceedings. The jacket was embroidered with a floral pattern which was also apparent on the hat she wore. It is the attention to detail which makes Carole’s style sought after and a good person to take inspiration from.
Liz Hurley also chose a nude skirt and jacket suit with matching heels. The skirt was high waisted and the jacket cropped, emphasising her enviable curves. The only thing that was of some concern was the pink and black fascinator plonked on the front of her head. The colours didn’t go with the outfit and the flower looked out of place with a structured suit. Liz would have suited a pill-box style fascinator or wide brimmed hat.
Of those opting for a bit of colour on such a grey day were the Queen and Princess Anne. Queen Elizabeth decided on pink knee length jacket and matching hat with her ubiquitous black shoes and bag. Her daughter, the Princess Royal, decided on a lavender dress, jacket and hat with black shoes, bag and umbrella.
Princess Beatrice covered up in a navy jacket, fascinator, heels, bag and bow scarf, showing she has the royal dress sense down to a tee.
Of the other racing spectators at Ascot, most didn’t let the weather dampen their mood. Everyone made the effort with summery dresses, heels and simple pashminas to keep off the chill. Of course being Ladies Day the most avant-garde hats were on display which included an artist’s painting palette, picnic set (including teacups), milk carton, iPad and so many feathers I’m surprised there are any birds left!
