Zoe Saldana’s acting career exploded when she portrayed a talented and smart-mouthed dancer named Eva Rodriquez in 2000 drama movie “Center Stage” and then became more popular after playing a role of Anamaria with Johnny Depp in “Pirates of the Caribbean” and in one of the biggest films in 2009 “Star Trek”. But the role that finally made this adorable woman one of the biggest breakout stars was her role as Neytiri in science fiction movie “Avatar”.

Zoe Yadira Saldana Nazario with birth name June 19, 1978 was born in Passaic, New Jersey to a Dominican father Aridio Saldana and Puerto Rican mother Asalia Nazario. Zoe Saldana spent the most of her childhood in Queens, New York until she reached the age of 10. Then she and her family moved to her father’s origin, Dominican Republic.

Zoe Saldana had a natural talent at dancing, so she decided to study ballet, Latin and modern dance at Ritmos Espacio de Danza Academy, one of the most prestigious dancing schools in Dominican Republic. After she graduated high school, Zoe Saldana made her way back to Queens in order to continue her study. Later this beautiful woman joined FACES theater group which has a vision to provide positive messages about dealing with substance abuse while performing on stage.

Her experience when she was in Faces troupe gave her something valuable. Then, she found her way to gain exposure to wide audiences in 1999 Law & Order with a help from an agent who signed her after seeing Zoe Saldana with New York Youth Theater (her other theater troupe) putting on a performance of musical work of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat”.

Later, Zoe Saldana made her first big screen debut as a talented ballet student Eva Rodriguez in 2000 drama film “Center Stage” thanks to her amazing dance skills and her acting talent. In 2001, she got a supporting role as Maggie in teen romantic comedy movie “Get Over It” alongside Kirsten Dunst and Mila Kunis.

Zoe Saldana’s successful movie aimed at young audiences led her to play alongside Britney Spears in drama road movie “Crossroads” in 2002. The movie received many negative reviews from critics stating that the film was predictable.

Zoe Saldana’s next role was a 2002 comedy drama “Drumline”, a movie about a young drummer (played by Nick Cannon) who attends the Atlanta A&T University that has a pride in its marching band. Saldana played the role of an upperclassman dancer Laila and for her performance in the movie, she received a nomination for Best Kiss awards by MTV.

In 2003, Zoe Saldana had a role, playing as “Anamaria”, a female pirate who mad at Jack Sparrow (played by Johnny Depp) for stealing her ship. Her role in this movie, “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl”, was not her big role but it was a memorable one.

Then, Zoe Saldana appeared in Steven Spielberg’s comedy drama movie “The Terminal” (2004) alongside Tom Hanks and Catherine Zeta-Jones. She played the role as “Dolores Torres”, a female Customs and Border Protection officer. And in the same year, she reunited with her co-star in “Pirates of the Carribean”, Orlando Bloom in feature film “Haven”.

Few years after playing in 2005 American comedy film “Guess Who” and 2006 romantic comedy movie “Premium”, Zoe Saldana was quite busy in 2008, starring as Angie Jones (a female GNN reporter) in an action thriller film “Vantage Point” alongside Dennis Quaid, Matthew Fox and Forest Whitaker.

One year later (2009), Zoe Saldana appeared in the J.J. Abrams directed movie “Star Trek” along with Chris Pine, Eric Bana and Karl Urban. For her performance in the movie, she was nominated for People’s Choice Awards for Favorite Breakout Movie Actress and Teen Choice Award for Choice Movie Actress – Action Adventure.

Zoe Saldana received much recognition and publicity after she played the role as Neytiri in James Cameron’s “Avatar”. Her role in this movie gave her more opportunities to work in big commercial films and she also won Teen Choice Award for Choice Movie Actress, Saturn Award and Empire Award for Best Actress.
