High Fashion at the Investec Derby 2011

The high fashion at the Investec Derby 2011 has come to a close and with Erin O’Connor and the Royals in attendance, it was a memorable two days for all those who came.

Mimi Theobald and Erin O'ConnorEveryone saw horse Pour Moi, ridden by Mickael Barzalona crowned the Derby winner after it beat the Queen’s horse Carlton House, who unfortunately lost a shoe during the nail-biting race and came third.

However, besides the racing the Epsom Derby was all about high fashion, whether you were a lady in the Grandstand or a Royal in the Queen’s Stand.

On Ladies Day Mimi Theobald, a milliner from Inverness won ‘Style on the Downs’, judged by Erin O’Connor and Louis Mariette.

Mimi was dressed in a lemon yellow 1950’s dress with a wide white neck collar and a large yellow and white corsage. To top this off she teamed the dress with a black clutch bag, heels, gloves and a circular fascinator which she made herself.

Style on the DownsDuchess of CambridgeThere was nothing that could be faltered about her ensemble and she deservedly won the title of most stylish woman at the Epsom Downs and a prize that included a weekend stay at Hotel Verta with full use of the spa facilities, £1000 to spend at Question Air, a chauffeur and lunch at Savoy River Restaurant.

Of course it was a hard competition to judge as the runners up looked exceptionally glamorous and well put together.

Queen ElizabethThere were a couple of vintage inspired dresses and one lady wore an oriental themed outfit consisting of a turquoise cheongsam dress with teashade sunglasses and a parasol.

All the women in the line up of Style on the Downs wore a fascinator. There were no full hats but rather a variety of small floral fascinators or larger statement pieces which were the showpiece of their Ladies Day garb.

When the Royals arrived on Derby Day the style stakes rose even more. The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton looked a picture of health in a white knee-length dress and jacket. Her hair was tied up in a chignon for a change and she wore a light brown fascinator and nude heels.

Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie
Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie opted for simpler dresses, unlike their royal wedding ensembles. For the Epsom Derby Beatrice chose a fitted floral dress with a white flowered fascinator whilst Eugenie donned a white and black polka dot frock with a monochrome hat.

Olivia Inge and Louis MarietteQueen Elizabeth wore her usual uniform of a dress and matching knee length coat. The colours were fuchsia and white which followed through into the hat. The Queen accessorised with pearls, a bow-shaped broach, white gloves and black bag and shoes.

Carole Middleton looked elegant in pale pink dress with black dots. She matched her dress with a pale pink jacket, hat and clutch bag.

Other celebrities at the Derby were model Olivia Inge in an orange and white gingham dress, worn with gold heels and a black fascinator and Carol Vorderman in a fitted white dress and a chic white fascinator.

Jilly Cooper, Hilary Alexander and Tamara Ecclestone were also in attendance at the Investec Derby, wearing summery races attire.
