Ladies day is for women at the Investec Derby to get dressed up to the nines in their finery and where high fashion and exquisite fascinators are paraded round the many stands at Epsom Downs.
However Derby Day is when the men get suited and booted in smart suits and morning suits.
Derby Day is as much about fashion for the men as Ladies Day is to the women and as this is the day when the most prize money is on offer, lots of gentlemen like to look as smart as possible to place their bets.
Although top hat and tails is required in the Queen’s Stand, many men in the Duchess Stand and Grandstand like to make just as much effort and choose to abide by the morning suit dress code.
On Derby Day the Royal family including Princes William, Harry and Philip were seen dressed in morning suit attire.
Both the princes wore a black jacket and grey pinstripe trousers whilst William chose a pale blue waist coat and burgundy tie and Harry opted for a pale yellow waist coat and sky blue tie.
Throughout the whole of the Derby there were a variety of black and grey top hats and not all men wore the exact same style of morning suit.
Some wore black trousers whereas others wore a light grey jacket and trousers such as ex-jockey Lester Piggott.
For those attending Royal Ascot, even if you are not in the Royal Enclosure you will not look out of place if you decide to wear top hat and tails.
It is a smart occasion and a once a year event, therefore wearing this smart attire is all part of the enjoyment at the races.
If wearing morning suit is not your thing and you are not in the Royal Enclosure, a smart business suit is generally required.
Some men may find a dark lounge suit too heavy and hot so instead choose to wear a lighter and more summery matching jacket and trousers.
Light grey is often popular as are linen suits. These are ideal for summer racing as they will keep you cool.
